Why choose a Family Home in Valpolicella?
- We live in a modern and well appointed house on the outskirts of Negrar,
where we have one large double room with a private bathroom, and space for one
or two children if required.
- We feel that the combination of an Italian husband from this area (Mario has
lived in Valpolicella and Verona all his life) with an English wife (Anne has
lived here for 20 years, but still remembers what English people like!), will enable us
to give you the maximum support during your stay here.
- We offer hospitality to people who are looking for a convenient place from
which to visit local areas of beauty and places further afield such as Verona
(12 km), lake Garda (half an hour by car) and the Dolomite mountains (an hour by
car). Negrar is a traditional old town in a beautiful valley off the main
Verona-Trento road with a lively market on Mondays and a few basic shops, as
well as a small but efficient hospital which provides employment for many of the
local people. The centre of Negrar is five minutes' walk from the house, and
here you can find a few shops and banks, and lots of pizzerias and restaurants.
- Negrar is naturally best known for its vineyards, and for the production of
the traditional Valpolicella Classico as well as the top of the market Amarone
and Recioto Valpolicella wines. There are innumerable wine producers or 'cantine'
in the Negrar area, ranging from large distributors who produce for Sainsbury's
and other large chains to small but highly specialised 'cantine' which sell most
of their high quality wine locally. We have enjoyed visiting some of the
latter and learning about the processes involved in producing Amarone and
Recioto, and will be happy to arrange visits with wine-tasting for you too.
